Chef and former NFL player Tobias Dorzon was wounded in a shooting during an attempted robbery in Maryland on Tuesday.
The Hyattsville Police Department responded to calls of a shooting in the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place at 10:14 p.m. Officials located a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.
Both victims were taken to a hospital in unknown conditions.
The victims told police that they were on their way home from dinner when five people approached and attempted to rob them.
Officials have released descriptions for four out of five suspects. One male was wearing a black jacket with a hood and light-colored jeans and had a semi-automatic handgun. Another male was wearing a black jacket with a hood, light colored jeans and black and yellow sneakers and had a semi-automatic handgun. One male was wearing a black jacket and dark pants with a white stripe and had a short barrel rifle. Another male was wearing a black jacket with a hood with dark pants and had a semi-automatic handgun.
A vehicle involved in the incident is described as a white SUV with a sunroof and an unknown tag.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Hyattsville Police Department.
Who is Tobias Dorzon?
Dorzon was drafted into the NFL in 2010. He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans. He also played in the Canadian Football League for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Dorzon attended the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Washington during the offseason in 2012. He opened Union District Oyster Bar and Lounge in Washington, D.C. in 2018. He later opened Thirteen Restaurant in Houston, Texas and Huncho House in Hyattsville.
He was named the 2024 Chef of the Year by the Restaurant Association of Maryland. He was the first chef from Prince George‘s County to receive the honor. The county honored him with a special proclamation, celebrating him and congratulating him on his achievement.
He has appeared on several culinary competition shows, including Chopped and Guy’s Grocery Games on Food Network. He also hosts Time Out with Tobias on ESPN+ and Hulu.
The female victim has not been identified yet.
Hyattsville is a city in Prince George’s County with a population of over 21,000. It is one of the largest cities in the county and a suburb of Washington, D.C.
