What Has Donald Trump Said About Eric Adams

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and former President Donald Trump have a complicated history.

Adams, 64, who was indicated by a grand jury on Monday and is expected to face federal charges, has often called out Trump, 78, a native New Yorker, for his politics and alleged criminal activity.

In May, the Mayor said Rikers Island “will be ready” for Trump in the unlikely event that the former president is sent to the infamous prison for his falsifying business records conviction.

While Adams has long been outspoken about his opinions of Trump, the former president has seemingly not said as much to the public about Adams.

In November 2023, Trump voiced his support for Adams and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo as they confronted new lawsuits from women alleging sexual misconduct—one of the claims against Adams dates back decades.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that he hoped Adams, Cuomo, and “all of the others that got sued based on this ridiculous law where someone can be sued decades later, and with no proof, will fight it on being totally unfair and UNCONSTITUTIONAL.”

Trump was referring to lawsuits under the Adult Survivors Act, which emerged the week prior to his social post as the New York legislation was set to expire. This act provided victims of sexual assault with a two-year window to file lawsuits for past incidents that would have previously been restricted by the statute of limitations.

At the time of publication, Trump has not addressed Adams’ indictment on X or Truth Social.

A Manhattan jury convicted Trump in May on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records as part of a scheme to subvert the 2016 presidential election.

Judge Juan Merchan postponed his sentencing from September 18 to November 26, which will happen after the 2024 presidential election on November 5.

New York State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan is scheduled to sentence the former president in a hearing later this month, although he has not yet ruled on a Trump request to delay the hearing until after this year’s election.

What Eric Adams Said About Trump

In May 2020, Adams slammed Trump on social media after the former Apprentice star told the New York Post he didn’t think his home state and hometown needed bailouts.‬

“This is the same president who just weeks ago bailed out the airlines to the tune of $58 billion.,” Adams wrote on Facebook.

“The President of the United States, a former New Yorker who seems to enjoy stabbing his hometown in the back, talking about no bailout for New York. What kind of human being sees the suffering here and decides the people in New York City don’t deserve help?‬” he added.

After Trump was shot at during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024, Adams said in a statement, “The events that unfolded at today’s rally in Pennsylvania are horrific.

“No matter our disagreements, we must all agree that violence of any kind is unacceptable,” he said. “I am praying for the safety of former President Trump and anyone else who may have been injured in the attack in the incident today.

“While we continue to gather more information, we will be surging officers to certain sites across the five boroughs.”
