Travis Kelce makes statement after Kansas City shooting – and it’s heartbreaking

The city of Kansas is reeling after the shooting that took place during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade yesterday.

According to reports, shots rang out at Union Station, with Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves confirming in a press conference that there had been one deceased and 22 victims left wounded.

Needless to say, the tragedy has sent shockwaves around the US. What should have been an occasion of joy and celebration has now been marred by the latest mass shooting to occur in a country that has seen far too many in recent times.

Among those to express his grief in the aftermath of the shooting was Travis Kelce, in Kansas with his teammates for their victory parade.

“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me,” the tight end, 34, wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes tweeted: “Praying for Kansas City… ??????.”

The Chiefs issued their own statement, which read: “We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.”

As per reports, Kelce was one of the last players to speak at the Chiefs’ celebration before the gunfire erupted, with local sources saying that the team was still on stage when the initial shots were fired. The Chiefs confirmed that “all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.”

At yesterday’s press conference, Police Chief Stacey Graves said 22 people had been struck by gunfire. A local radio station later claimed that one of its DJs, Lisa Lopez, lost her life.

Tragically, nine children aged six to 15 are believed to be being treated for gunshot wounds at Children’s Mercy Hospital.

“The one word I would just use to describe what we saw and how they felt when they came to us was fear,” said chief nursing officer Stephanie Meyer.

Authorities said they have arrested three suspects in connection to the shooting.

My heart goes out to all the people affected by this tragedy.
