The Jon & Kate Plus 8 Family Years Later: Divorce, Accusations, and Estrangement

Few reality television families have shone as brightly or fallen as dramatically as the Gosselins, and a recent announcement from one of the children is set to reopen old wounds.
Jon and Kate Gosselin first welcomed cameras into their Pennsylvania home in 2007, creating a loyal following fascinated by the challenges of raising twins and sextuplets. However, beneath the surface, tensions were brewing that the show never fully captured, and now one of their sons is sharing his story.

From TLC Stars to Tabloid Sensations
“Jon & Kate Plus 8” premiered on TLC in 2007 and quickly became one of the network’s most popular shows, turning the Gosselin family into a sensation.

This fame led to book deals, media tours, and public speaking opportunities, making Jon and Kate well-known figures across the country. From the outside, their success seemed like a fairy tale.

However, 2009 brought significant changes. Jon and Kate filed for divorce after a decade of marriage, amidst rumors of infidelity on both sides.

The show was rebranded as “Kate Plus 8” and continued until 2017, with Kate taking the lead while Jon largely retreated from the public eye.

In the ensuing years, custody battles emerged, with Kate receiving primary custody of the children. However, two of the sextuplets, Collin and Hannah, eventually moved in with Jon full-time.

The reasons behind this change, especially concerning Collin, would later become the center of serious and troubling allegations.

Jon Addresses the Past and Calls Out Kate
In a 2019 appearance on “Dr. Oz,” Jon finally opened up about the dynamics that contributed to the collapse of their marriage. When asked about the main issues, Jon was candid.

“I think it’s both of us, but I believe she has a narcissistic personality disorder,” Jon stated. He continued, “She tends to think selfishly instead of considering others. I often think of others before myself, sometimes to my own detriment.”

These revelations reframed years of televised conflict in a new light, highlighting the personal cost that the decade of filming had on Jon.

Jon Gosselin Finds New Love and Marries
Fortunately, Jon has made positive strides in his personal life. He met Stephanie Lebo through friends in 2021, and the couple went Instagram official in 2024.
Reports indicate that she is a research and development chemist, a cosmetologist, and operates her own lash salon, Belle Cils Lash Bar. Stephanie has an 18-year-old daughter, Giuliana, who lives with them.

On November 23, 2025, Jon and Stephanie tied the knot at The Barn at Silverstone in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, surrounded by 180 guests.
Jon expressed to his new wife, “Before I met you, I never knew what it was like to smile at someone for no reason. I feel like the luckiest man in the world because I get to grow old with my best friend and the love of my life.”

He also reflected on the positive changes Stephanie has inspired in him: “She has taught me to be sympathetic, which I struggled with after my divorce. She’s made me a better person.”
Only two of Jon’s eight children attended the wedding: Hannah and Collin. The other six, including twins Cara and Madelyn and four sextuplets, did not attend, despite invitations.

Collin served as a groomsman and shared, “Looking at this moment, realizing how freeing it is for him and how much he deserves this, is something I will never forget.”
Current Status of the Gosselin Children
The twins are now 25 years old, and the sextuplets turned 22 this year, each pursuing their own paths with varying levels of privacy.

Cara graduated from Fordham University in 2023 with dual degrees in Mathematics and Economics. She currently works as a Leasing Credit Officer at Bank of America.

Madelyn, Cara’s twin, also graduated in 2023, earning a B.A. in English textual studies and film and screen studies from Syracuse University, and shares snippets of her life on TikTok.

In 2017, a teenage Mady hinted at this creative direction, stating, “I would love to perform in some way. I feel like I could write some sort of memoir already.”

Among the sextuplets, Hannah launched her vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand, Gosselin Girl Beauty, in May 2022. She graduated high school in June 2023 and is now studying business administration at the University of Miami.

Alexis, who at 12 expressed her desire to work with animals, has kept a low profile, while Aaden also maintains privacy away from social media, occasionally featuring in Kate’s Instagram posts.

Leah shares parts of her life on TikTok, where she has established herself as an avid reader. Joel is pursuing a degree in accounting at UNC Charlotte and is set to graduate in 2027.

On Mother’s Day last year, Kate posted a tribute for the sextuplets’ 21st birthday on Instagram, stating, “And just like that, they turned 21! Happy Birthday to my 6! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #GosselinSextuplets.”
However, two children were noticeably absent from the photos: Hannah and Collin. While Kate’s relationship with Hannah seems to be in good standing, Collin remains completely estranged from his mother for several reasons.

Collin Gosselin Breaks His Silence
Of all the Gosselin children, Collin’s story bears significant weight and is now emerging in a very public manner.
Kate claimed back in 2017 that Collin faced “educational and social challenges” and placed him in a residential program to help him develop essential skills.
However, Collin recounts a starkly different experience, alleging that Kate emotionally and physically abused him as a child and that he “never had a childhood,” despite growing up in the spotlight.

His most alarming claims include being zip-tied and confined in a specially constructed basement room with only a bed and cameras on multiple occasions.
At age 11, Collin was taken to a mental health facility after being diagnosed with conditions he insists he did not have, and he has shared medical records to support his assertions.
He also alleges that during his time in the facility, Kate visited him only once for 30 minutes, where she reportedly lectured him about ruining their family.

In a 2022 interview, he offered his perspective on the family’s disintegration, saying, “I want to believe it was because of TV and what being in the public eye does to a family. I think it tore us apart. It gave us less time to actually be together and more time to be in the public eye.”
From Confinement to a Marine Discharge
By 2024, Collin attempted to join the US Marines but was discharged before finishing training.

“I was almost done with training, very close to graduating. But during the paperwork review, they discovered I had been in an institution at one point, which was enough for them to discharge me,” he explained in an interview.
Soon, the world will hear more about his experiences, at least from his viewpoint. On June 17, 2026, Collin shared the cover of his upcoming memoir, “In the Shadow of Eight,” on Instagram, accompanied by a childhood photo.

His caption mentioned, “For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story… Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life, but it also helped me find my voice.”
The memoir is scheduled for release on October 13, 2026.
On June 27, an extensive interview with Strange McKnights was released, filmed prior to Collin’s memoir announcement, where he expressed more than he ever has publicly.
He challenged Kate directly, saying, “I would like to invite my mom to do a lie detector test. One of the questions would be about the zip ties… I want to get into everything.”
Collin added, “We should both be hooked up to lie detectors and heart monitors. For so long, she’s maintained a facade to the media. I have nothing to hide.”
Although the memoir’s release is months away, Collin recently shared a headline on his Instagram Stories indicating that Kate is reportedly “spiraling” ahead of the book, aware that it’s going to create a stir.
He obscured his mother’s face with a filter and highlighted a follower’s comment that stated, “What’s done in darkness will always come to light.”
Currently, Collin has received significant support from fans. Comments on Instagram include: “Proud of you for standing up for yourself and the truth,” and “You grew into such a smart, handsome young man!”

Others commented, “I am proud of you Collin! You seem like a very smart and kind young man!” and “You are so handsome! Keep elevating and stay true to yourself!”
The Gosselin narrative was never solely about eight kids and a camera crew; it delves into what occurs when a family’s private moments become public property and what remains when the cameras finally stop rolling.
With a memoir on the horizon and a lie detector challenge out in the open, the most significant chapter of this family’s saga is likely just beginning.
