Major Update on Husband of Missing Nurse As Search For Her Body Intensifies
|Naresh Bhatt, the Virginia man charged with concealing his missing wife’s dead body, will appear in court on Friday as he seeks to be let out on bond.
The search for pediatric nurse Mamta Kafle Bhatt, 28, who was last seen in July continues in Manassas Park, as Naresh Bhatt, 37, remains behind bars for his alleged role in her disappearance.
He is accused of killing his bride of three years and mother of their 1-year-old daughter but has not been charged with murder.
Naresh Bhatt’s trial will begin on December 9 with a pre-trial hearing set for November 20.
He was the last person to see his wife in late July. Before her disappearance, officers conducted a wellness check for her at the Nepali couple’s home on August 2 and spoke to Naresh Bhatt, who did not want to report her missing at that time. Naresh Bhatt formally reported Mamta Bhatt missing to police on August 5.
Since then, police executed search warrants on the couple’s home and found evidence of pooled blood in the master bedroom and blood spatter in the master bathroom. Investigators also found signs suggesting a body had been dragged through the house.
Officials also served a search warrant to Google requesting location data and search history for Naresh Bhatt. The warrant also asked for his account information, social media accounts, and map search between July 27 and August 1.
The affidavit for the search warrant indicates that Naresh’s Google account contains “location-specific data relevant to locating Ms. Kafle,” WJLA reports.
In court last month, prosecutors noted Google searches made in April on Naresh’s work laptop asking how long it takes to get married after your spouse dies.
GPS tracking data from a Tesla that Bhatt allegedly sold just days before his arrest may also contain crucial information, police told Fox 5.
Naresh Bhatt’s public defender previously asked the Commonwealth Attorney to provide any evidence that could help in their case and defense, including potential GPS information from the car and both Mamta and Narseh’s cell phones. Their request also includes video footage from July 27 showing Mamta Bhatt getting into a car after work at the UVA Health Prince William Medical Center.
Newsweek has contacted the public defender’s office and the Commonwealth Attorney for comment.
Both Mamta Kafle Bhatt and Naresh Bhatt are originally from Nepal. Naresh Bhatt is a US Army veteran whose Facebook boasts many photos of him in his uniform and posing with guns.
Before her disapperance, Mamta Kafle Bhatt worked as a pediatric nurse at the UVA Health Prince William Medical Center. She previously worked as a nurse at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.
The couple shares a 1-year-old daughter.
