Jamie Foxx Injured During Birthday Dinner: Everything We Know

Jamie Foxx was celebrating his birthday on Friday when someone hurled a glass at him, resulting in him needing stitches.

The Hollywood star was out for dinner at a Beverly Hills restaurant when the incident occurred. Newsweek previously reported that sources from law enforcement told TMZ that police were called to Mr. Chow around 10 p.m. after a report of a fight broke out inside the venue.

The outlet stated that an assault report was filed and Foxx’s name appeared as one of the parties involved in the incident. A spokesperson for Foxx has since confirmed that the actor was involved, while police said no arrests were made.

Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Foxx for comment on Monday outside of normal business hours.

“Someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth,” a spokesperson for Foxx told the Los Angeles Times. “He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”

The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) said it responded at 10:06 p.m. to a reported possible assault with a deadly weapon and determined it was unfounded.

“Instead, the incident involved a physical altercation between parties,” a department news release said. “The BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the battery. No arrests were made.”

Foxx took to Instagram on Sunday to thank those who checked in on him after the altercation. He posted an image with the words: “The devil is busy… but I’m too blessed to be stressed.”

He captioned the post: “The devil is a lie. Can’t win here… thank you to everybody that pray and check on me… when your light is shining bright… they try to bring you darkness … but they don’t know that you’re built for it… the lights have been shining bright… and huge thank yous to everyone that have watched and been inspired by ‘What Had Happened Was’ … number 1 on @netflix if you haven’t checked it out please go check it out it’s from my heart and my soul…”

Foxx had been at the restaurant with his family, including his daughters Corinne and Anelise, as well as his former partner, Kristin Grannis, to celebrate his 57th birthday.

Jamie Foxx Previously Hospitalized

In April 2023, it was revealed that Foxx had been hospitalized after an unspecified “medical complication.” In May of that year, his daughter Corinne Foxx confirmed he was out of the hospital and “recuperating.”

The actor and comedian publicly addressed his medical emergency in his new Netflix comedy special, What Had Happened Was…, released December 10. He recalled how a headache led to him being unconscious for several weeks. He jokingly recalled asking a friend for aspirin, only to realize later that his condition was far more serious. “I don’t remember 20 days,” he said.

The Django Unchained star recounted visiting a doctor in Atlanta who simply gave him a cortisone shot before sending him on his way. “What the f*** is that? I don’t know if you can do Yelps for doctors, but that’s half a star,” he quipped.

Thankfully, his sister, Deidra Dixon, stepped in and brought him to Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, where doctors discovered he had a brain bleed and was at risk of dying if not treated immediately. Foxx shared that his sister’s hunch and constant prayers during the operation were crucial in saving his life.

Closing out the special, he recalled the difficult recovery process, saying he “lost everything” but he was holding onto his sense of humor. He ended the set by thanking the audience and his family for their support.
