Why Is Colin Gray Charged in Son’s Alleged Shooting?

Prosecutors say Colin Gray didn’t take action even though he knew his son’s obsession with school shooters, which included a shrine of 2018 Parkland gunman Nikolas Cruz above his home computer.

Colin Gray bought Colt Gray the AR-15 style rile allegedly used in the school shooting for Christmas last year even after the FBI came to his home in May 2023 to investigate online shooting threats allegedly made by Colt Gray.

After the Apalachee High School shooting, Colin Gray reportedly told investigators that his son had asked him for a larger magazine, and he bought one for him, as well as a bore sight for the rifle and ammunition for the gun.

Investigators testified that Colin Gray did not seem surprised when he was informed of the shooting and did not immediately express remorse.

What About Colt Gray’s Mother, Marcee Gray?

In a police report obtained by NewsweekColin Gray told officials in 2023 that his family was evicted from their prior address in Jefferson, Georgia. He and Marcee Gray were divorced, and she took the two younger kids while he and Colt moved together.

Marcee Gray also has a troubled past. In September, she was indicted for elder abuse after she was accused of tying her mother to a chair and leaving her there for almost 24 hours in November 2023.

Marcee has also previously been prosecuted in Georgia counties Barrow, Fulton, and Forsyth for charges including domestic violence, drug possession, property damage, and traffic violations.

Additionally, she has faced civil fraud charges related to a vehicle purchase and was in jail in Ben Hill County as recently as April, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Marcee Gray reportedly pleaded guilty and paid a $600 fine in 2008, receiving 12 months probation and 40 hours of community service. She completed her probation in August 2010.

In 2019, an auto dealer sued her for writing a bad check as a down payment, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Most recently, Marcee Gray was reportedly arrested on felony drug possession charges in November when police discovered her in her car with a “glass jar containing a crystal-like substance identified as methamphetamine,” multiple outlets report.

The warrant also described the presence of a “red clear baggie with a powdery substance identified as fentanyl,” “a clear glass pipe used for narcotics,” cyclobenzaprine tablets in a baggie, and the use of a license plate belonging to someone else on her vehicle.
