‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Trailer Unleashes Pedro Pascal’s Team Against the Silver Surfer in a 1960s MCU Reboot
|Marvel just dropped the long-awaited trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps — and it’s clear this isn’t just a reboot. It’s a full reimagining, set in a stylish, retro-futuristic version of 1960s Manhattan, where Marvel’s First Family are the only heroes in town.
Leading the charge is Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing). The trailer teases both their origin story and their clash with cosmic forces far beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
Among those forces? The legendary Silver Surfer, now played by Julia Garner, and Ralph Ineson’s Galactus, the universe-devouring entity that threatens Earth. The cast is stacked — with Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich also making appearances in still-secret roles.
While this is Marvel Studios’ first official take on the Fantastic Four, the team’s cinematic history goes back decades. Two Fox-era iterations brought them to theaters — one in the 2000s with Chris Evans as Human Torch, and a critically panned 2015 reboot starring Miles Teller. Those versions are now footnotes, as Marvel Studios sets out to make First Steps the definitive introduction for the MCU.
Don’t expect crossover cameos — not yet, anyway. This new Fantastic Four film is reportedly set in its own timeline, untouched by the current MCU continuity, with a strong visual identity rooted in alternate-reality 1960s flair. No other Marvel heroes are in sight — and that’s exactly how it’s meant to be.
Still, the team has been teased before. John Krasinski appeared briefly as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, only to meet a gruesome end. Chris Evans even returned as Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine in a multiverse twist, giving fans a nostalgic nod before… well, you know what Marvel likes to do.
Now, the future is here — and it starts with First Steps.
Fantastic Four: First Steps opens in theaters July 25, 2025.
