Dad’s Way of Testing He’s Still Best Friends With His Toddler Melts Hearts
A little boy from Texas had his loyalty tested this week after his dad wanted to confirm something for good.
In a clip on TikTok, Justin Waters and his son, Cooper, were watching TV together, but the father of one can’t seem to get comfortable and keeps moving to a different spot.
Two-year-old Cooper, who wants to remain as close to his dad as possible, sticks to him like glue and snuggles up next to him. Luckily, viewers weren’t confused for long, as the text overlay reads: “Making sure we’re still best friends.”
The clip was posted by his mom, Makenzie Waters, who told Newsweek her husband and Cooper’s relationship is very sweet. “They are best buds. It’s like someone hit copy-paste,” the 30-year-old said.
Waters’ clip, posted on the account that the couple share, has racked up over 8 million views. Over 9,000 social media users commented on the clip, many of them loving Cooper’s dedication to his dad.
“I love how kids have no shame in their feelings,” one user wrote.
“I’m about to be a father real soon and I hope this will be my son’s reaction to me,” another commented.
Many referred to Cooper as a “Velcro baby”—a term used to describe a baby that is particularly clingy and requires constant physical closeness or attention from a parent.
One user said their 9-year-old is still a Velcro baby. “My youngest can’t stand the sight of me and is mummy’s little shadow,” they commented.
“We laughed when we read the term. We love that our little family is so close. Coop being a Velcro baby just shows that he feels safe and loved at home,” Makenzie told Newsweek.
Others were quick to defend Cooper and pleaded for the dad to stay in one spot. “The way this video has stressed me out. Apologise to him now,” one joked.
This isn’t the first time the couple have checked how Cooper feels about them both. Makenzie said, “Everyone on TikTok seems to love those videos. Justin is such a great dad, and those videos are just a tiny glimpse of that.”
By the looks of Cooper’s eagerness to be near his dad, he seems to have passed the test.
