Caroline Kennedy Vows to Keep Daughter Tatiana Schlossberg’s Memory Alive for Her Children, Echoing Jackie Kennedy’s Legacy
Caroline Kennedy is facing an unimaginable loss following the death of her daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, yet those closest to the family say she is determined to ensure Tatiana’s memory lives on especially for her young children much like her mother, Jacqueline Kennedy, once did after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Tatiana Schlossberg, the middle child of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, died on Tuesday, December 30, at the age of 35, just weeks after publicly revealing her diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. Her passing has sent shockwaves through the Kennedy family and beyond.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed via the JFK Library Foundation’s official social media accounts, shared on behalf of Tatiana’s family, including her husband, Dr. George Moran, and their two young children, Edwin and Josephine.

“Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,” the family wrote, signing the message with the names of her loved ones.
A Legacy of Memory, Love, and Strength
In a deeply personal November 2025 essay published in The New Yorker, Tatiana reflected on her greatest fear that her children might be too young to remember her. Now, that responsibility falls to her family, particularly her mother.
A longtime Kennedy family friend explains that Caroline now faces a role strikingly similar to the one her own mother once shouldered.
“Caroline will do for Tatiana’s children what Jackie had to do for hers keep their parent’s memory alive,” the source says.
Caroline Kennedy was just five days shy of her sixth birthday when her father, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated on November 22, 1963. Her younger brother, John F. Kennedy Jr., was not yet three. In the aftermath, Jackie Kennedy made it her life’s mission to preserve JFK’s legacy for her children a devotion that history still remembers.

A Family United by Love and History
Now 68, Caroline is surrounded by a strong support system, including her husband, surviving children Rose and Jack, and Tatiana’s husband, George Moran. Together, they are committed to ensuring Tatiana’s story, strength, and love remain present in her children’s lives.
“Caroline and George will raise those kids together with Tatiana’s memory at the center,” the family friend shares. “She will make sure they know who their mother was.”
Tatiana’s Deepest Fear and Her Family’s Promise
Tatiana herself wrote poignantly about the pain of adding yet another tragedy to her family’s long history of loss.
“For my whole life, I tried to protect my mother… Now I have added a new tragedy to her life,” she wrote.
Those close to the family insist Caroline will honor her daughter’s life with the same quiet strength that has defined her own.
“Caroline will carry Tatiana’s memory for the rest of her life,” the source says. “That is a gift for her children and for the family.”
A Tribute from Maria Shriver
While Caroline has not publicly spoken, Maria Shriver, her cousin, paid a moving tribute online.
“I cannot make sense of this. None. Zero,” Shriver wrote. “My heart has always been with my cousin Caroline… What a rock she has been.”
Shriver added that Tatiana’s children will grow up knowing their mother’s courage, love, and extraordinary spirit.
