The identities of three other victims who lost their lives in the same plane crash that took the lives of the Biffle family have now been revealed. The families of the victims, including the Biffles, the Duttons, and Craig Wadsworth, have released a joint statement regarding the devastating event. At the time of the accident, the seven individuals aboard the plane were en route to Florida.
“We are overwhelmed with grief at the loss of our beloved ones. The magnitude of this calamity has left our families shattered beyond words,” said the Biffle, Grossu, Dutton, and Lunders families in a joint statement. The statement was shared by Bob Pockrass, a motorsports reporter for Fox Sports. “Greg and Cristina were doting parents and dedicated philanthropists, their lives revolving around their young son Ryder and Greg’s daughter Emma (mother – Nicole Lunders). Emma was loved by many for her kindness and wonderful soul. Ryder was a lively, inquisitive and perpetually cheerful child.”
Furthermore, the identities of the three other victims were disclosed by the grieving family members. “Dennis Dutton and his son Jack were also deeply cherished, and their absence is felt by everyone who had the fortune of knowing them. Craig Wadsworth, a respected name in the NASCAR community, will be sorely missed,” the statement read.
Wadsworth was a prominent figure in the NASCAR community who had previously driven the motorhome of retired NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace, as he revealed in an Instagram post.
The statement added, “Each of these individuals held a special place in our hearts, and their loss has left an immeasurable gap in our lives. Currently, our main priority is to honor their memory and lend support to each other.”
Onboard the ill-fated plane were Biffle, his wife Cristina Grossu Biffle, their five-year-old son Ryder, and Biffle’s 14-year-old daughter Emma, whom he had with his ex-wife Nicole Lunders.
The Cessna C550 tragically crashed and burst into flames while landing in adverse weather at the Statesville Regional Airport in Statesville around 10:15 a.m., as reported by the Associated Press.
The corporate jet had taken off from the airport, located approximately 45 miles north of Charlotte, shortly after 10 a.m. before it attempted to return to the airport.
According to Garrett Mitchell, a close family friend, the plane was heading to Florida at the time of the tragic accident.
“Unfortunately, I can confirm that Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder were on that plane,” Mitchell posted on Facebook. “They were on their way to spend the afternoon with us. It’s heartbreaking. I regret having to share this news.”
As per FlightAware, the plane was destined for Sarasota, Fla.
During his racing career, Biffle, also known as “The Biff,” won several championships, including the Truck Series in 2000 and the Xfinity Series in 2002. The native of Vancouver, Washington was also recognized as one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023. In the previous year, he had been awarded the 2024 NMPA Myers Brothers Award for his humanitarian efforts.
