Emma Roberts Marries Cody John in Idaho as Aunt Julia Roberts Gets Emotional at the Ceremony
Images from the wedding of the 35-year-old star of "American Horror Story" revealed the guests who attended the small outdoor event, as well as those who were notably missing.
Emma Roberts and Cody John, known for his role in "Midsommar," have officially become husband and wife after they exchanged vows in a quaint outdoor ceremony set in Sun Valley, Idaho.

The wedding took place at the groom’s family home, where family and close friends gathered amidst tall trees, picturesque mountain views, and warm late-summer sunlight.
While the couple chose to keep the ceremony private, recently released photos provide a glimpse of the day, capturing tender family interactions, emotional hugs, and the first moments of the couple as newlyweds.
According to Page Six, the ceremony lasted approximately 45 minutes, despite the sweltering temperatures reaching about 95 degrees. Guests were seated along a floral pathway as Emma made her entrance under the clear Idaho sky.

Rhodes Joined Emma on Her Special Day
Emma was accompanied by her five-year-old son, Rhodes Hedlund, who held her hand while they walked down the aisle together.
Photos from the ceremony show Rhodes in a dark suit, proudly leading his mother, who wore a flowing veil that trailed on the grass. This touching moment set a heartfelt tone for the vows exchanged between Emma and Cody.
Other pictures captured significant moments of the celebration, including the couple’s inaugural kiss as husband and wife, a warm embrace right after the ceremony, and their return up the aisle hand in hand while guests cheered.
Julia Roberts Showed Emotional Support
Emma’s aunt, the Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts, was among the attendees and was visibly emotional throughout the celebration.
One image captures Julia wiping away tears while conversing with another guest shortly after the ceremony, while another photo shows her smiling through her emotions as she greeted family members, offering an intimate view of the family gathering.
Dressed in a black-and-white polka-dot outfit paired with oversized sunglasses, Julia appeared at ease as she congratulated the couple and mingled with relatives during the afternoon, which also sparked conversations online.
On Instagram, one user commented on the guest list, questioning why the father wasn’t present despite Julia’s attendance. Others expressed opinions on Julia’s clothing choice, with one stating their dislike for her attire and another defending her by mentioning her close relationship with Emma.
On Facebook, a user remarked on Julia’s outfit choice, wondering if it was appropriate for a wedding, while another expressed surprise at learning about her familial connection with Emma.
Eric Roberts Offered Support Despite His Absence
While Julia celebrated with family in Sun Valley, Emma’s father, Eric Roberts, was not in attendance. Neither Emma nor Eric has provided any public explanation for his absence.
Nevertheless, Eric publicly expressed his support for Emma’s marriage through a statement to Page Six, affirming, "I love my daughter, always have, always will."

He further stated, "It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants." Eric has been candid over the years regarding his relationships with both Emma and Julia.
In a 2018 Vanity Fair interview, he clarified that he wouldn’t label his relationship with Julia as a ‘falling-out.’
He admitted that his history of substance abuse had strained their relationship, acknowledging that he had been ‘exhausting to be around’ and that those close to him, including Julia, ‘needed a break sometimes.’

However, Eric noted that they reconnected following the birth of Julia’s twins in 2004, and they have since spent Thanksgivings together and become ’email buddies.’
In July 2024, Eric mentioned on the "Still Here Hollywood" podcast that both Emma and Julia had requested he refrain from discussing them publicly.
He expressed, "I love my sister, but I can’t talk about her," and added, "I’m not supposed to talk about either of them. But I do."

During an April 2026 appearance on the "Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson" podcast, Eric reflected on the experience of becoming a father when Emma was born in 1991.
He admitted to struggling with addiction, depression, and other difficulties at that time, referring to himself as ’emotionally… a wash rag’ and ‘not someone to be relied upon emotionally, as I was a car wreck.’
Eric took ‘full responsibility’ for that part of his life while emphasizing that his feelings for Emma have never wavered. ‘I’m so proud of my daughter,’ he stated. ‘Bring her up all day.’
He also countered public speculation regarding their relationship, stating that outsiders often misunderstand their family dynamics. ‘It’s only complicated through outside eyes because they don’t get any of it,’ Eric explained. ‘Thus, they have their own take… but it’s not an authentic relationship with the subjects.’
Emma’s Wedding Dress Captured Antique Inspiration
In preparation for the wedding, Emma collaborated closely with designer Monique Lhuillier to craft a dress that embodied her passion for vintage aesthetics.
In a conversation with Vogue during her final fitting, Emma revealed that she didn’t start the design process with a specific vision in mind but was focused on the feeling she wanted the gown to evoke.

Emma shared, "I didn’t really know what I wanted. I just knew that I wanted it to feel very vintage-inspired. I’m obsessed with antique books and treasure hunting, and I love collecting old ephemera, so I really wanted that to shine through in the dress."

Choosing not to go with a conventional bright white gown, Emma selected a custom tea-toned fabric that matched the antique vibe she envisioned. ‘I kind of wanted to look like a ghost—a little antique ghost doll,’ she remarked.
Achieving this vision required nine months and nearly 1,000 hours of work. Designer Monique Lhuillier used around 25 yards of silk chiffon dyed in a unique shade named ‘antique rose,’ honoring Emma’s middle name.
The final gown featured a structured corset beneath delicately draped fabric, along with a removable lace shawl and several styling options that transitioned seamlessly from the ceremony to the evening celebration.
Seeing her completed gown surpassed Emma’s expectations: ‘I said I wanted to look like a ghost, and they made it beautiful.’
She humorously noted that while Cody would have supported any outfit she chose, she knew he would love the final creation. ‘He wouldn’t care if I wore jeans,’ she said. ‘But he’s definitely going to adore this.’
Pre-Wedding Photos Sparked Online Conversations
The wedding weekend captured attention beyond the ceremony itself, particularly with photos released showing Emma in a short white bridal dress and a matching headband while strolling through town with Cody.
In various images, she is seen smoking a cigarette, and another photo captures her lifting the hem of her dress as they walked down the sidewalk. These candid shots quickly incited discussions on social media.

On Instagram, one user commented, ‘Making smoking uncool again 🥲 Ari is holding a cig in her new post too.’ In contrast, another user remarked, ‘Her smoking in the white dress is 💯 a vibe, brings me back to early 2000’s.’
However, not everyone was in favor. One user expressed, ‘Smoking is so disgusting, one of my biggest icks, can’t stand being around family and friends who smoke. The smell is atrocious.’
Another Instagram post prompted further reactions, with one user exclaiming, ‘Can’t believe she smokes.🤷🏻♀️,’ while another commented, ‘Is she ok?’ A third user defended Emma, stating, ‘Leave her alone! Have the best time 💕.’

Emma and Cody made their romance Instagram official in 2022 when Cody posted a black-and-white photo of them enjoying a boat ride, simply captioned, “sweet sweet.”
Emma announced their engagement in July 2024 with a heartfelt Instagram photo, where she leaned into Cody while showcasing her engagement ring, joking in the caption, ‘putting this here before my mom tells everyone ❤️.’
