Her son became a world-renowned celebrity, but his mother’s tragic history is worse than you can imagine

However, not many are familiar with her life and the struggles she has endured.

Justin Bieber is a massive global star, and many perceive him as having everything one could desire.

Yet, even celebrities experience personal challenges that often go unnoticed by the public. The relationship between Justin and his mother, Pattie Mallette, has been tumultuous, and given her difficult past, it is understandable that their relationship has faced complications.

Pattie Mallette was born on April 2, 1975, in Stratford, Ontario, and hails from a French-Canadian heritage. Tragically, her childhood was overshadowed by a heartbreaking event. When Pattie was only 2, her 5-year-old sister, Sally, was killed in a traffic accident, an event that left a lasting impact on Pattie’s family and her formative years.

Pattie shared that she endured years of abuse and violence, starting when she was just 3 years old. She recounted, ‘My offenders include a male babysitter, the grandfather of one of my friends, and neighborhood children reportedly mature beyond their years.’

By the time she was 14, Pattie began experimenting with drugs. This period also saw her engaging in shoplifting and getting expelled from school for causing a fire in the bathroom. Unfortunately, the sexual abuse continued, and in her book, she described experiencing date rape at age 15.

Pattie reflected on her trauma, saying, ‘I was sexually violated so many times that as the years went by it began to feel normal. It’s a strange marriage – knowing something is wrong yet at the same time finding it familiar and commonplace.’

At 15, she began a relationship with Jeremy Bieber. Their romance lasted four years, but she ran away from home at 16. To survive, she resorted to theft and drug dealing.

‘My life was really painful as a child,’ Mallette told George Stroumboulopoulos, as quoted by Cosmopolitan. ‘I had a love for the arts that I share with Justin, and we kinda bond over that.’

After enduring a long period of despair and suicidal thoughts, the 17-year-old attempted to take her life. She was subsequently admitted to a mental institution that utilized Christian conversion therapy.

Upon her release, Mallette reconnected with old friends and colleagues who did not share her newfound religious beliefs. This was also when she rekindled her relationship with Jeremy Bieber.

Although Pattie and Jeremy initially continued their relationship after Justin’s birth, they eventually separated after a few months.

Despite facing numerous challenges, Pattie was a devoted and caring mother. She supported Justin in his musical pursuits and helped him enter the 2007 Stratford Star talent competition when he was a teenager.

Mallette published her autobiography in September 2012 through the Christian publishing house Revell.

Titled ‘Nowhere But Up,’ the book focused not only on Pattie’s challenging upbringing but also on how she harnessed faith and love to cultivate optimism and be the best single mother she could be for her son.

Today, their relationship has evolved.

Following his significant breakthrough, Justin Bieber encountered legal issues. He was arrested in 2014 after police pulled him over around 4 a.m. during a street race.

This incident caused a strain in the relationship between mother and son.

‘I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was. We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust… it’s hard, but getting better. She’s an amazing woman and I love her,’ the star shared with Billboard in 2015, as quoted by Cosmopolitan.

However, that challenging phase in Justin’s life is now nearly forgotten, and Pattie takes great pride in her son.

While Pattie faced significant challenges throughout her youth, her journey towards grace serves as a true inspiration. Share this story if you feel the same!
