Nikki Glaser Pulled Brutal Caitlyn Jenner Joke After Private Warning: ‘I Just Needed to Hear It From Her’
|Nikki Glaser is not known for holding back. But when it came to a joke about Caitlyn Jenner’s past, even she knew there was a line not to be crossed. Speaking during the Time100 Summit in New York, Glaser revealed that she once cut a brutal joke about Jenner from a Comedy Central roast — after hearing that Jenner had personally threatened to pull out of the event if the joke stayed in.
While workshopping material ahead of the roast — believed to be the 2019 Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin — Glaser had crafted a savage punchline referencing Jenner’s involvement in a fatal car accident. She didn’t repeat the joke onstage at the summit, but in a 2019 “Howard Stern Show” appearance, Glaser had previously shared what she had written: “Caitlyn Jenner, what a beautiful woman… you killed with your car four years ago. [You are] one woman who can’t menstruate but still manages to have blood on her hands.”
Glaser admitted she was nervous about the material and initially asked Comedy Central if she could warn Jenner in advance. But the network discouraged her, worried that Jenner might withdraw. Still, word got back to Jenner about the joke anyway — and the reaction was swift. “[Jenner] said if there’s a joke like that, I don’t want to be a part of it,” Glaser recalled. “As soon as I heard that, I go, ‘OK, I’ll take it out.’ I just needed to hear it from her.”
That experience stuck with Glaser, who said she now has no problem cutting jokes if they truly make someone uncomfortable. She credited Jimmy Kimmel for giving her advice early in her career: “If you’re worried about a joke and how it’s going to go over, just ask them.”
Glaser even followed that advice recently at the Golden Globes. Before her monologue in January, she texted Benny Blanco about a joke involving his relationship with Selena Gomez: “Selena Gomez is here for ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘Only Murders.’ And she’s here tonight with her new fiancé, Benny Blanco. And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.” Blanco immediately responded, “That’s hilarious! Let me run it by Selena.” Later, he confirmed, “Selena thinks it’s great.”
With her sharp instincts and ability to balance comedy with compassion, Glaser continues to rise as one of the most fearless voices in entertainment. She is already locked in to host the next Golden Globes, set for January 11, 2026.
