Adrien Brody’s Oscar-Winning ‘The Brutalist’ Sets Streaming Release on Max This May

A24’s powerful post-war epic The Brutalist, which swept audiences and critics alike earlier this year, is finally coming to home streaming. Starting May 16, the Oscar-winning film will be available on Max, with a linear premiere on HBO following May 17 at 8 PM ET.

Directed by Brady Corbet and anchored by a haunting performance from Adrien Brody — which earned him his second Oscar for Best Actor — The Brutalist is more than a film. It’s an architectural, emotional, and cinematic odyssey.

The cast features a powerhouse ensemble: Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach de Bankolé, and Alessandro Nivola. Both Pearce and Jones received Oscar nods for their supporting roles, with the film ultimately walking away with Academy Awards for Best Actor, Original Score (Daniel Blumberg), and Cinematography (Lol Crawley).

Running over three hours and featuring a rare mid-film intermission, The Brutist follows visionary architect László Toth (Brody) as he flees post-war Europe to rebuild his life in America. With his wife Erzsébet (Jones) by his side, Toth finds patronage through an industrialist (Pearce) in Pennsylvania. But in a land driven by legacy and wealth, creativity comes at a price — and so does survival.

Written by Corbet and Mona Fastvold, the film is an epic meditation on displacement, ambition, and the cost of art in a world that demands compromise. It’s a story told with visual precision, aching intimacy, and a deep reverence for what it means to start again.
