Eric Dane Reveals ALS Diagnosis, But Says He’s Headed Back to the Euphoria Set Next Week

Eric Dane has shared some devastating personal news—but he’s not stepping away from the work he loves. The Euphoria star has revealed he’s been diagnosed with ALS, the progressive neurodegenerative disease that impacts the body’s nerve cells and muscles. Still, the 52-year-old actor says he’s not slowing down. In fact, he’ll be back on the Euphoria set next week.

“I’ve been diagnosed with ALS,” Dane said in a statement. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter. I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week.” He also asked fans and the public to respect his family’s privacy.

ALS—also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease—is a terminal condition that gradually robs the body of its ability to speak, move, and breathe. There’s no cure, and the average life expectancy following diagnosis is typically just a few years. That makes Dane’s decision to continue working all the more powerful.

On Euphoria, Dane plays Cal Jacobs—the emotionally complex, morally broken father of Nate (played by Jacob Elordi). After two intense seasons of dysfunction and darkness, Dane teased last year that Cal may be on the verge of a redemptive arc. And now, that journey will continue in Season 3, with filming set to begin April 14.

Dane, best known to many fans as “McSteamy” from his iconic run on Grey’s Anatomy, has built a career playing magnetic, complicated men. From his brooding roles in The Last Ship to more recent work in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, he’s remained a commanding presence across TV and film. Now, he’s taking on his toughest battle yet—with grace, grit, and purpose.
