Carrie Underwood Applauds Contestants for Boldly Sharing Faith in Hollywood: “It’s a Brave Thing to Do”

Carrie Underwood is using her platform to celebrate those who bring their faith into the spotlight—especially in a place like Hollywood, where doing so isn’t always embraced.

During a recent episode of American Idol, Underwood praised contestants Rylee and Breanna after their heartfelt duet of Brandon Lake’s Christian hit “Gratitude.” The country superstar, visibly moved, applauded their choice to share a message of faith on a national stage.

“I know how difficult it is to come into the entertainment industry and bring your faith with you,” Underwood told the pair. “It is a brave thing to do because there are a lot of outside forces that are going to tell you not to do that.”

Underwood has long stood firm in her beliefs, often facing backlash for it—most recently after performing at President Trump’s second inauguration. Despite criticism, she emphasized her intention to unify, saying, “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Her conviction runs deep. In previous interviews, Underwood has shared that she and her husband, Mike Fisher, are raising their children to approach everyone with love, regardless of differences. “God loves them, so it should be my job to do my best to love them as well,” she once said.

Speaking with The Drew Barrymore Show, Underwood reinforced the importance of providing emotional support in the industry. Like Ariana Grande, who recently advocated for contracts to include therapy provisions, Underwood agrees that young entertainers need that backing—especially when navigating fame while staying true to their values.

While she acknowledges that being vocal about faith might not always win public favor, Underwood isn’t focused on trying to please everyone. “I just really try hard to do what I do, be nice to people, and make great music. If people think they can look up to that, that’s wonderful. If not, that’s OK too.”

Carrie Underwood may not welcome the controversy that often follows her values, but her unwavering example continues to encourage others to stand firm in faith—whether on the Idol stage or beyond.
