A federal judge has dismissed a sexual assault lawsuit filed against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs after the anonymous plaintiff—identified only as Jane Doe—failed to comply with a court order requiring her to refile the complaint under her real name.
The suit, initially filed in October 2024 in the Southern District of New York, alleged that Combs assaulted the woman at a party in 1995. But on March 31, 2025, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman officially dismissed the case due to the plaintiff’s inaction.
“On March 6, 2025, the Court denied Plaintiff’s motion to proceed anonymously and ordered her to file a complaint in her own name by March 20,” Judge Liman wrote. “As of March 31, Plaintiff has not filed a complaint in her own name, nor has she sought an extension of time to do so. Accordingly, the case is dismissed.”
Diddy’s legal team welcomed the ruling, stating: “For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by attorneys more focused on media headlines than legal merit.” They further added, “The other claims, like the one dismissed today, also will not hold up in a court of law.”
The plaintiff had been represented by high-profile Houston attorney Tony Buzbee, who previously announced he was representing hundreds of individuals accusing Combs of sexual misconduct. This is now the second lawsuit filed by Buzbee’s team against Combs that has been dismissed in full.
Despite this outcome, Combs still faces significant legal trouble. He remains a defendant in several dozen other civil lawsuits and is under federal indictment on criminal charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently being held without bail in Brooklyn, with a criminal trial scheduled for May.
