Kevin Smith’s ‘Dogma’ Returns to Theaters in June With Nationwide 25th Anniversary Tour

Two decades and change after raising eyebrows—and laughs—across movie theaters, Kevin Smith’s Dogma is headed back to the big screen. The irreverent 1999 fantasy comedy is officially getting a theatrical rerelease on June 5, just in time to celebrate its 25th anniversary. And in true Smith fashion, the film’s resurrection comes with a full-blown U.S. tour.

Smith will personally hit 25 cities across the country, hosting special screenings and Q&A sessions with fans. The tour kicks off April 20 with a screening at The Grove in Los Angeles—coincidentally landing on both Easter Sunday and 4/20, two holidays near and dear to Smith’s trademark blend of religious satire and stoner charm.

Distributed by Iconic Events, the rerelease marks a rare public showing of a film that has long been hard to come by. Dogma has never been available on any major streaming platforms, and physical copies have become collectors’ items in recent years. The scarcity has helped elevate it to cult-classic status, despite it being Smith’s highest-grossing film in the View Askewniverse series, which also includes Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy.

Starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as two exiled angels seeking a loophole back into Heaven, Dogma also features Linda Fiorentino, Chris Rock, Jason Mewes, and Smith himself as Silent Bob. The film struck a chord in 1999 for its daring commentary on organized religion, layered with pop-culture-laced absurdity.

In a statement that captures both reverence and irreverence, Smith joked:

“Bless me, Father — for I have cinema! God bless Iconic Events for granting my fourth (and perhaps best) film a religious re-release! Praise the Lord and pass the popcorn for the second coming of Dogma!”

He continued with a tour teaser full of fanfare:

“Blessed are they who come in the name of the tour. See you in Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Tampa, and Orlando, before wrapping up at my movie theater, Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey.”

And for those who can’t make the live events?

“Thank Heavens you can see the flick at a theater near you on June 5th!”

Mark Rupp, CFO and co-founder of Iconic Events Releasing, echoed the sentiment:

Dogma holds a special place in my heart, and I’m thrilled that fans will once again get to see it the way it was meant to be experienced — on the big screen.”

With a film that skewers dogma while earning a devoted following of its own, Kevin Smith’s re-release is more than a nostalgia trip. It’s a cinematic confession, a celebration, and—perhaps fittingly—a pilgrimage for movie lovers.
