Meg Ryan Returns to Oscars for First Time in 27 Years With Must-See Red Carpet Moment
The Sleepless in Seattle star made her first Oscars appearance in nearly 30 years at the 97th Academy Awards March 2—hosted by Conan O’Brien—and she owned the red carpet in a captivating gown.
The 63-year-old donned a strapless red velvet dress with thigh-high slits on either side of the gown. Meg completed the look with a pair of strappy black platform heels and a white diamond bracelet. Later in the evening, Meg presented alongside Billy Crystal, awarding Anora the Oscar for Best Picture, beating out The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance and Wicked.
The You’ve Got Mail star last attended the Oscars in 1998 alongside then-husband Dennis Quaid. For that event, Meg sported a long-sleeved black dress, which complemented Dennis’ black tux and tie. The duo both donned pairs of dark sunglasses, as well.
During the Oscars ceremony—which saw Adrien Brody win the trophy for Best Actor, as well as multiple history-making wins, including for both Wicked and Emilia Pérez—Meg found herself sharing a sweet off-camera moment with Best Actress nominee Demi Moore, who wore a custom silver Armani Privé dress with a plunging neckline.
In another hiatus-breaking appearance in recent memory, the When Harry Met Sally actress attended her first Met Gala in 20 years at last year’s event. For the fashion-filled night, Meg wore a shimmering black Michael Kors gown with a billowing train to match the charity ball’s “Garden of Time” theme. Across the chest, bodice and down the train, black flowers were adorned and dazzled in the light. She topped the look off with her signature wavy bob hairstyle while walking the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
