At 104 years old, World War II veteran Dominick Critelli delivered a moment that left an entire arena in awe.
During the New York Islanders’ game on December 27, fans rose to their feet as Critelli performed a soulful rendition of the U.S. National Anthem earning thunderous applause and chants of “U-S-A” as he concluded his performance.
A Life Defined by Service and Patriotism
Born in Italy in 1921, Dominick Critelli immigrated to the United States as a young boy. His lifelong love for his adopted country would later be reflected through both military service and music.
Critelli went on to serve as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. His dedication placed him directly in the heart of history’s most intense moments.

Heroic Role in the Battle of the Bulge
By 1944, Critelli was serving under the command of General George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge one of WWII’s most critical and dangerous campaigns.
Assigned to the 378th Regiment, he flew 14 low-altitude missions, dropping vital supplies to troops entrenched in foxholes below. His bravery earned him the prestigious Air Medal.
In total, Critelli served 151 days in active combat, according to USA Warrior Stories.

European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (with three Bronze Campaign Stars)
